The heat of Longdays is fading into the cool winds of Leaffall, and the caravan of Windrunners is once again preparing to make the twice-a-turn journey from Sunspear Canyon to River’s Hand. There they will plant and harvest crops that will sustain their people through the bitter Whitecold. Led by their Chief, Tusk, and guided by the Firekeeper and Elder, Ashra, the Windrunners must travel across the Grass Sea to reach their hidden farmlands. But trouble brews within the Council of Five; can the remaining Elders maintain peace and order in their chief’s absence? What of the wandering lorekeeper, Dusksinger? How will her sudden reappearance affect the future of the tribe?
Good morning, and shade and sweet water! A few of you know that I not only help moderate here on Oakleaf Holt, but I also admin for a private Elfquest roleplay forum. We have been in operation for exactly one year now, and after much discussion we have decided to open to the public, to add to the small group of active Elfquest forums out there; we recognized a need for more places to play, and we think we can offer a unique style of gameplay.
I wanted Oakleaf Holt to be the first to hear about the forum and our plans to open to the public. We won’t be opening right away - plans are for late August of this year (I have a lot of cleaning up to do on the site) - but we wanted to give everyone the option to take a look and begin planning characters that they may want to play. Feedback on the layout/how things read is also appreciated - I want things to be clear and easy-to-locate on the forum!
Before you ask any questions, I’ve written some basic information up on The Windrunners, attached below. I’m really excited to share this with you, and look forward to expanding the Elfquest roleplaying universe one step further!
What is The Windrunners?
The Windrunners (WiRu) is a roleplay forum based on the graphic novel series Elfquest. The game operates in the same world as the story, but along a different canon, with player-created characters.
We founded The Windrunners on July 9, 2015 after months of planning and playing our characters together over hangouts and documents. Our first characters were created as early as April of 2015, with some that span both The Windrunners and Oakleaf Holt being designed as early as 2013.
Who founded The Windrunners?
The Founders of The Windrunners are listed below in more detail: Jeedai, Lionspine, Mimi, Noël, Shannon and Tzezuko. Jeedai, Graphic Designer: He creates most of the graphics for the Board. His work includes some of our banners, default avatars, and a number of character icons.
Mimi, Data Manager: She is responsible for keeping and updating records, such as lists of character names, ratios of character genders/magics/tribal roles, etc.
Noël, Systems Administrator: She handles the back-end support for the Board. Please contact her if you have account issues, a question about HTML/CSS/BBCode, or trouble with Board functionality.
Tzezuko, Lead Recruiter: She manages recruitment on other forums, introduces new players to the Board, and can help answer general questions.
Why was The Windrunners founded?
The Windrunners was started by a small group of players from Oakleaf Holt that wanted to create a space we could play our characters as they were originally designed, in a world that we had slowly been creating for ourselves through roleplay over various platforms. These character were originally created with the intent of joining the Oakleaf Holt Plainsrunner tribe, but as that tribe was developed it became clear that what we had designed, and what the tribe was evolving into, would not match up. Thus we created The Windrunners as a private place to play these characters as we had intended, and went about creating new characters for Oakleaf Holt, that better fit that story and world.
The Windrunners was also created as a place to explore new styles of forum roleplay and administration, that many of us could not find on other Elfquest roleplay forums; we developed the NPC+/NPC system, as well as created an egalitarian process of decision-making and Administrative approval. Many of the rules of play and guidelines for character creation were developed by the Founders to avoid issues such as player favoritism, ‘snowflake syndrome’, and emotional decision-making. The Founders on The Windrunners hold ourselves to the same standards we do our players, and our forum rules were designed to reflect that.
Where can I sign up?
Currently, we are not open for registration. We plan to go live to the public in a few months, and aim for an open date at the end of August, 2016. More information will become available as we know more.
During the period between now and our open, we encourage people to read over the forum rules and consider what type of character you may want to create on The Windrunners. However, please be aware that the forum rules on participation are very strict, and designed for fast play, and we ask that you not apply for a character that you will not be able to regularly post for.
There are also severe consequences for players that do not follow the board rules: that includes our clauses on taking in-character drama as out-of-character drama, and player harassment or discrimination. This is not a place for you if you have trouble separating your characters and play from the real world.
Finally, The Windrunners is a PG-13 to R-rated game; sex and violence is common in play, though we do place limits on how graphic something may be described during play (we fade to black in those instances). Please consider whether descriptions of sexual acts, the killing of animals for food or in personal defense, or violent death of characters is tolerable to you; if not, The Windrunners is not the right forum for you to play on.
3,000 turns ago, our ancestors left the Sun Village; a mixture of immortals and wolf-blooded jackwolfriders, treading an unknown path toward a new destiny. We did not know where we would end up, but we had a purpose and a vision of a future that we wished to grasp. Though we have not forgotten where we came from, a new culture has developed around the ‘no humps’ of our land. We embrace the duality of our ancestry, governed by a succession of wolf-blooded Chiefs, and guided by the Council of Five: immortal elders who have seen and learned from the experiences of our past.
We wield magics that once lay dormant within our ancestors, now newly-awakened and singing through our blood. We are hunters and farmers, jewelry-makers and brewers, herdmasters and guardians of the Way. To serve our people and to ensure our survival, we always run with the wind at our backs. We are the Windrunners and we invite you to run with us for so long as the winds will carry us!
Shade and sweet water! We are eager to announce the introduction of a new Elfquest Roleplaying Forum, The Windrunners, opening mid August 2016. Feel free to peruse the forums early at www.windrunners.freeforums.net.
As we prepare to open, we will be fielding questions, assisting with the creation of your character information sheets (CIS) and helping with any forum navigation or tribal questions. Feel free to reach out to the Admin account or contact any of the Founders above for further assistance.
Below please find a few useful links to assist with getting to know the forum, the elves and the players. We're excited to get to know you and to weave a rich and creative tapestry of tales together!
A welcome to our new members and applicants! November marks the beginning of our official activity quotas going into effect, which means that any character that has not posted by Monday, November 15th will be marked as 'Inactive'.
As a reminder, Inactive Characters are sent a Private Message, to warn them they have one more month to post before the character is considered abandoned. Upon character abandonment, characters are removed from any active threads by a mod, made an NPC, put up for adoption, or some combination of these options.
Please alert the Board when you have a planned absence longer than four days on the Planned Absences thread. You may defer an inactivity notice for up to two weeks by giving prior notice of an absence, after which you are subject to the Board activity requirements.
For more information on our activity policy, please see How to Play.
Just another warning that Inactivity checks happen tomorrow - please check to see whether your character has been listed on Inactive Characters for six weeks, and post before end of day Dec. 15 to keep your character in play. Any characters that have not posted by end of day Dec. 15 are subject to removal from the game, and will be made an NPC, put up for adoption, or some combination of these options.
Leyna and Tusk, we already spoke, but if you need more time, you can defer by two weeks by putting a notice in the Planned Absences thread.
The moderators at Oakleaf Holt are happy to announce that they are now accepting new players! The forum just celebrated their fourth year of active roleplay, and are open for both original and adoptable characters. Oakleaf Holt has four tribes: the Wolfriders, Go-Backs, Wavedancers, and Plainsrunners. For more information, please start here: oakleafholt.boards.net/thread/…/welcome-oakleaf-start
The forum is primarily focused on adoptable characters, and has many to choose from, but there are a few original character spots open as well; the link above will detail what spots are open. The speed of the game changes with player needs, but there is a small monthly quota of two posts a month from each character. The next plot arc will center around the Plainsrunners, and is due to start mid-January to February.
